TLMI is a leading international non-denominational Christian organization, with over (130) years experience in leprosy work. TLMI has been working with Christian Leprosy Hospital in Mawlamyine over (100) years now to take care of persons effective by leprosy in Myanmar.
Given the distribution of persons affected by leprosy throughout the country, we will never achieve rehabilitation for persons affected by leprosy unless they are included as part of wider rehabilitation plans.
Together with the Department of Social Welfare (DSW), TLMI is the focal agency for disability in Myanmar. Since 2004, TLMI expended its focus to include other types of disability other than leprosy to enable person with disabilities to be included into mainstream development programes.
People disadvantaged by leprosy and other disabilities will be able to participate in the social economic life of their communities as equally valued members, able to realize their rights to mobility, economic self-sustainability and possesion utilization of valuable skills.
